Why Midwifery Care?
Midwifery care is rooted in a holistic approach, treating low-risk clients based on their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. We revolve our appointments around building trust, cultivating connection, and providing education so that you can access personal empowerment throughout the perinatal period and your life! We focus on a trust-based approach that supports the inherent wisdom and strength that lives within you. All of these pieces come together to create a safe and powerful experience for you and your family within the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods.
During the prenatal period, we provide 1 hour long appointments in our office based in Napa and one home visit at 36 weeks. Through these visits we are able to provide clinical assessment, emotional support, and education. Informed choice is a touchstone to midwifery care, and we will be providing thorough informed choice discussions for you to support your right to making informed decisions for you and your baby.
We will be in contact with you throughout your early labor experience and join you when you reach “active labor”. We offer birth tub rentals as a form of natural pain relief in labor and use many other methods to create a calm and safe environment for your birth experience. We utilize intermittent fetal monitoring and continue to assess you and your baby for clinical signs that keep you in the low-risk category. We are supportive of you having the birth experience you are desiring whether it be in the water, you catching your own baby, or dancing through labor as long as all falls within safe and normal parameters. We remain with you and your baby about 3-4 hours following the birth in which time we provide a thorough newborn exam, suture tears you may have (that fall within our scope), provide a placenta exam, and continue to monitor for well-being.
Within midwifery care, we believe in the importance of support during the postpartum period. We provide postpartum home visits at day 1, day 3, and day 7, then resume care in office for a 2 week and 6 week postpartum visit. This care includes well-baby care and maternal care in which we continue to assess your well-being.
In addition to providing services during the perinatal period, we also provide preconception counseling as you prepare for conception. Well-womon care is another service we can provide with a holistic and compassionate approach to pap smears and other routine screening. Get in touch for more details.
